there is beer, and there is beer.

as an alcoholic, i am strangely quite choosy with my choice of poison.

beer > whisky > vodka > wine > tequila> xo > gin.

kilkenny > asahi > ipa > murphy's > paulaner > kwak > stella > san miguel > yanjing > water > piss > rat poison > tiger.

went to bar bar just now and was pleasantly surprised to see that they revamped the draft beer menu - no more london pride but they have a new one tetley's which is a lot more drinkable! and they even have 1664 on tap. hearts. looks like i need to get a new liver soon.

the guru's new clothes

When the guru’s initial efforts failed, he accused Mr Edamaruku of praying to gods to protect him. “No, I’m an atheist,” came the response. The holy man then said he needed to conduct a ritual that could only be done at night, outdoors, and after he had slept with a woman, drunk alcohol and rubbed himself in ash.

read more about it here.

LOL! amazing what what blind faith and self-delusion can lead to. i never understood the need for spiritual sustenance which some people have. what i have is a healthy curiosity for the unknown and the desire to explain the unbelievable.

in any case, indian skeptic for the win! =D

koc

through the alleyways to cool off in the shadows
then into the street following the water
there's a bearded man paddling in his canoe
looks as if he has come all the way from the cayman islands

went for the kings of convenience yesterday at the esplanade cos of the mosaic festival. wow they sound even better in person! seriously i could have just closed my eyes and floated off to harmonics heaven, but in the end i was also singing and dancing along. they make such intuitive music that you wonder why nobody had thought of it earlier. then you remember that they are the kings; the kings of convenience indeed. seriously smashing.

last year i also attended the mosaic festival - went to watch skye at the heineken room. was really good as well. and cheap! i think the mosaic festival has been doing a great job so far in bringing in some of the top indie acts in the world at fantastically low prices!

now for some nada surf perhaps? =)

crash and burn

went to kino yesterday to get some books cos I had some vouchers which were expiring soon. gosh, ended up buying 3 books, 2 of them by murakami and 1 in the french translation instead. i really need to get over my murakami addiction; its one thing to enjoy reading his books, its another to actually look forward to getting hammered by waves and waves of his deliriously melancholic and surreal prose.

back to reality, things have really been trying. lots of work and no training makes jeremy an angsty boy. been sick for most of last week, which made things worse. after almost a year, work expectations and production is at as steady state as it should be already; metro, boulot, dodo 5j/7. so yeah, nothing new in life, what's next to look forward to? ah its not that work sucks, but rather, its life outside of work that sucks. after 25 years, certainly there has got to be something else other than just this current state of affairs. but what?

whataya want from me?

LUP

my eyes gaze up and down
and sometimes somewhere else
fingers fidgeting feet forgetfully fretting
finally it comes
you barge in, "6" you say
a brief moment of warmth
my eyes are fixated on steel now
we all look ahead
strangers in an empty shell
hurtling through infinite space and time
only to arrive here now

unrelentless

if i were
there would you see
the tears in my eyes
as i struggle to keep them
in

if i were
there would you hear
the gasp from my mouth
silent from not having been
emitted

if you were
here would you dare
to reach out for my hands
as though as it were the end of the
world

if we were
here together would we
be able to withstand these
unrelentless waves of
separation

?

appreciation. something which we dun see that often nowadays. something which somehow means the most but which we take granted the most for.

on those days where work is unceasing and everything seems to be shouting now now now and deadlines have all been crossed, sometimes a simple pat on the back can work wonders.

same with our loved ones. how often do you thank your mom for making breakfast for you in the morning so that you can sleep in 15mins longer? how often do you say "i love you" to your gf/bf? and what about the friends around you who make life that much more interesting?

time for some thanksgiving, methinks. =)

chiongsua

spent the last 2 weeks outfield for ICT.

seriously its been such a long time since i last went outfield but somehow everything still looks familiar. i guess its either that bad memories last a long time, or that singapore is really small! still remember the times at tekong, OCS, and later on, mono-intake with 5 SIR.

new things this time:

- going outfield with NSmen. initially i thought that NSmen would be unmotivated and uncooperative but it proved the contrary; active personnel can sometimes be the weakest link instead! made lots of friends and got to know some interesting stuff about them: for e.g. my signaler is the owner of fashion.lab. useful to network around in case i get retrenched!

- lbv. managed to get myself a set of the new lbv (the 2nd generation one, not the latest one with armour plates) and so i brought it along with me. first impressions: lots of compartments so i could store lots of stuff. however the straps sat quite heavily on my shoulders and caused some discomfort. maybe i just need to wear it more often to break it in.

- pixelised uniform. not that new actually given that i wear it on a daily basis. however first time wearing it in a field environment. the material is quite rough and does not dry quickly, so i got myself rashes in quite a number of places. just like the lbv, maybe i just need to chiongsua more often.

- maintenance ops. well, i never went through LOCC or BLOC so i had to learn everything on the job. was a little confusing at first but luckily i had a good PS to help me out with the job taskings and paperwork so all was fine in the end.

next chiongsua in 2 weeks time. hooah!
