yohmigosh!

just catched the nail biting table tennis girl's gold medal match just now. a pity that we lost, but hey we lost to the world's junior champ! no shame in that, really.

sprouting out from extreme negativity, sporting fever has suddenly gripped singapore as the yog draws to a close. last burst of fire perhaps? or maybe it was due to the performance of our brave young athletes. yes, we may have lost, but given the way those boys and girls went down, i guess they have already proven themselves and demostrated that there is no shame in defeat.

if she continues playing the way she is played tonight, i am sure isabelle li will be a household name come the london olympics.

same for soccer. i have not seen players with as much hunger and perseverance as the young cubs last night for a long time. and what a mixed bag of players: chinese, malay, indian, eurasian. really cmio at work.

and what about darren choy? he's already the world junior champs and he's on his way to an olympic gold!

anyway i am really glad that most of the young athletes were born and bred locals. shows that the government is not just going to import foreign athletes and blatantly buy gold medals.

and what about the volunteers? mostly busy working behind the scenes, i think all 20000 (ok, 19999 excluding me) all deserve gold medals as they were the extra player on the field who ensured that the yog could run smoothly.

oh yeah! oh yeah! oh yeah!

Jhender a dit…

Vivian commented this on someone's blog: I wish the critics would just focus all their negative energy on me so that the athletes and volunteers can go and have a great time.

Seeing as we're kinda physically unable to host the full fledged Olympics (plus our neighbours aren't helping), I guess I should be contented with the youth version. Though its just not quite the same. It's just this feeling that there is still someone better out there, even if he is older.

But go Darren!
And Isabelle looks on her way. Don't you just love the singaporean faces.

Yesterday I looked at NEA's weather map and realised the Village is so at the wrong end of the island from all the venues. They must hate the travelling.

pot a dit…

yeah yeah! i was just thinking about it and hey, the yog was not so badly organised after all. i mean, although we do not have the world class facilities at least we are the first country to host it so there's no comparison!!! haha.

who said you had to host a successful first olympic games? look at the first marathon ever run - the runner died of exhaustion right?

i think at least this event gave SG some glamour and recognition (some athletes before coming here still thought that SG was part of china!!!!), so well not too bad i guess.

and the SG athletes also got some great exposure; i hope that this will give them (and SG sport in general) a much needed poke in the ass and shift their mindsets to achieve their breakthrough performances!
